Students should know the important differences between accredited and non-accredited courses in Malaysia in order to make informed decisions. Choosing a course that is not accredited by the Malaysian Qualifications Agency (MQA) may impact your future working career in a negative way.

According to the Malaysian Qualifications Agency (MQA), accreditation is a formal recognition that a certificate, diploma or degree programme has attained the quality standards and criteria set by the MQA and in compliance with the Malaysian Qualifications Framework (MQF).

The completion of an accredited course means that students are issued with a nationally recognised qualification. Accreditation is a status or achievement as a result of quality assessment by MQA. It is a commitment by MQA to all stakeholders in higher education such as students and parents that the programme accredited by MQA is quality-assured.

In addition, a course that’s accredited provides employers with the guarantee that what the graduate has studied meets the national standards and requirements, and is able to perform the tasks as required in the job.

Marketing communication (MarCom) is a fundamental and complex part of a company’s marketing efforts in Malaysia and globally. Loosely defined, MarComm can be described as all the messages and media you deploy to communicate with the market.

This includes advertising, direct marketing, branding, packaging, your online presence, printed materials, PR activities, sales presentations, sponsorships, trade show appearances and more. Marketing communication has two objectives. One is to create and sustain demand and preference for the brand or product. The other is to shorten the sales cycle.

Creating preference is often a longer-term effort that aims at using communication tools to help position your product or company in the minds of the target customer. Positioning and building a brand takes time and requires a certain consistency (not just in the communication efforts themselves, but also in regards to the core elements of product, pricing, and distribution) and therefore represents a significant commitment for the company.

However, establishing preference by building a brand will impact market share, profitability and even your access to talent—

and thus provides long-term value for the company.

Shortening the sales cycle means assisting your sales and channel partners in their efforts to identify, engage and deliver a customer. Understanding the customer’s buying process brings critical insight into how one can shorten the sales cycle. The figure below illustrates the process the buyer goes through when buying a product.

Through market research and conversations with salespersons, MarCom staff must identify how they can help speed up the process. In the case of high-tech products, the sales cycle involves considerable amounts of customer education in the early stages of the process.

MarCom must focus on creating, packaging and delivering relevant information to the buyer throughout the buying process in order to sales meet this education need.

Those who practice advertising, branding, brand language, direct marketing, graphic design, marketing, packaging, promotion, publicity, sponsorship, public relations, sales, sales promotion and online marketing are termed marketing communicators, marketing communication managers, or more briefly, marcom managers.

Students in Malaysia should choose a university that’s equipped with the necessary facilities with lots of student activities and an English-speaking environment in order to prepare themselves well for a challenging career in marketing communications. It’s important not to choose a university with an environment that would not help you to improve your English language skills. If you do, you will realise upon graduation how challenging it would be to find a job or succeed in your marketing career in Malaysia without the necessary skills in writing or communicating in English.

Marketing Communication Students in Malaysia Should Have a Good Command of the English Language

Students interested in studying Marketing Communications should be good in languages, like to socialise with people, have an

outgoing personality, possess strategic thinking, like to write, organise events, a creative mind, and lots of energy. A good command of the English language is very important for a successful career in Marketing Communication.

Students need to choose a university where the students speak mainly in English and experience in offering the programme. If you are weak in English, it will be very difficult for you to maintain the image of your company with bad English.

You will not be able to write good press releases and copy for the brochures. Coming up with good taglines or campaign ideas for your product or company will be almost impossible. Having a good command of both English and Mandarin would be very advantageous. However, if you are only proficient in Mandarin, you will not be able to get jobs in top multinational or global companies

Students interested in studying Public Relations should be good in languages, like to socialise with people, have an outgoing personality, possess strategic thinking, like to write, organise events, a creative mind, and lots of energy.

A good command of the English language is very important for a successful career in Public Relations.

It is important to choose the best private universities and colleges in Malaysia to ensure that you get the necessary training and skills to succeed in the competitive workforce. Choosing a private university with an English-speaking student environment will help you to improve your language skills. Public relations is the process of providing information to the public in order to present a specific view of a product or organization. Public relations differs from advertising in that it is less obtrusive, and aimed at providing a more comprehensive opinion to a large audience in order to shape public opinion. Unlike advertising, public relations professionals only have control until the message is related to media gatekeepers who decide where to pass the information on to the audience

Public relations is the professional management of external and internal communications to build the reputation of a company or cause. Today’s PR Specialists work on developing beneficial relationships in cities, governments, corporations, consumers, media, charities and communities to manage the relationships and communication channels.

Public relations (PR) is the way organisations, companies and individuals communicate with the public and media. A PR specialist communicates with the target audience directly or indirectly through media with an aim to create and maintain a positive image and create a strong relationship with the audience.

The PR Specialist uses a wide variety of communication tools and techniques such as the press releases, newsletters, public events, conventions, newspapers, billboards, blogs, social media, websites, TV, radio, etc.

The business world is very competitive and in order to win new customers and keep the existing ones, companies have to set themselves apart from the competition. But they also need to create and maintain a positive public image.

A PR specialist or firm helps them both create and maintain a good reputation among both the media and the customers by communicating in their behalf and presenting their products, services and the overall brand in a positive manner they will remember. A positive public image helps create a strong relationship with the customers which in turn increases the sales.

In the time since, Curtin University Sarawak has established itself as a world-class international university in East Malaysia, attracting students from throughout Malaysia and some 40 other countries.

Strategically located in a region of Sarawak famed for its natural wonders, rich cultural heritage and biodiversity, oil and gas industry, and emerging processing and manufacturing industries, and with over 3,500 students, Curtin University Sarawak offer students a truly international and cross-cultural learning environment in a unique Malaysian setting.

Students seeking an affordable higher education at a reputable international tertiary institution in Malaysia need look no further than Curtin University Sarawak. Scholarships are available to deserving top students in Malaysia.

Most significantly, it is the relatively lower cost of studying and living in Miri, compared to the costs of pursuing tertiary studies in Australia, that attracts students to Curtin Sarawak. Every aspect of Curtin’s academic programmes, including course materials and examinations, are identical to the programmes offered at our main campus in Perth.
