Mass communication is “the process by which a person, group of people, or large organization creates a message and transmits it through some type of medium to a large, anonymous, heterogenous audience.” Mass communication is regularly associated with media influence or media effects, and media studies. A top private university in Malaysia would have the necessary resources to equip you with the skills to succeed in this fast paced and exciting high in demand career.
In Malaysia, the study of mass communication is often associated with the practical applications of journalism (Print media), television and radio broadcasting, film, public relations, or advertising. With the diversification of media options, the study of communication has extended to include social media and new media, which have stronger feedback models than traditional media sources. While the field of mass communication is continually evolving, the following four fields are generally considered the major areas of study within mass communication.

Studying Mass Communication at Top Private Universities & Colleges in Malaysia
EduSpiral analysed my personality and results, subsequently advised me on choosing the right course as well as the best university that fit me. John Lai Wai Hong, Graduated in Mass Communication from KDU University College
Mass Communication basically is the process of coming up with a message and sharing this message to a large group of people at the same time through the right communication channel. The channels includes media such as newspapers, magazines, television, cinema, radio, billboards, or the Internet.
What you post onto the Facebook or Youtube is communicating to a large group of people. Students learn the history and cultural effects of newspapers, magazines, radio, television, film, and other media on society. The 5 basic areas of study are advertising, public relations, broadcasting, journalism and communication. In order, to be successful in the career in mass communication, students must choose the best universities in Malaysia to study this course. You need to equip yourself with the necessary knowledge and skills. The cheapest university would not be able to provide such skills that you need.
The 5 basic areas of study in mass communication are:
advertising
public relations
broadcasting
journalism
communication
Advertising
Advertising, in relation to mass communication, refers to marketing a product or service in a persuasive manner that encourages the audience to buy the product or use the service. Because advertising generally takes place through some form of mass media, such as television, studying the effects and methods of advertising is relevant to the study of mass communication. Advertising is the paid, impersonal, one-way marketing of persuasive information from a sponsor. Through mass communication channels, the sponsor promotes the adoption of goods, services or ideas. Advertisers have full control of the message being sent to their audience.
Broadcasting
Broadcasting is the act of transmitting audio and/or visual content through a communication medium, such as radio, television, or film. In the study of mass communication, broadcasting can refer to the practical study of how to produce communication content, such as how to produce a television or radio program. When broadcasting through radio and television, the entertainment and information can be distributed by wire and wireless to other radio stations, television stations, and networks. The channels offer informative and entertaining content of general and specific interest. Along with radio and television broadcasting, those presenting the information could present the information live or recorded.
Journalism
EduSpiral picked us up from Subang Airport to take us to visit the universities & advised on which is the best for mass communication.
Journalism, is the collection, verification, presentation, and editing of news for presentation through the media, in this sense, refers to the study of the product and production of news. The study of journalism involves looking at how news is produced, and how it is disseminated to the public through mass media outlets such as newspapers, news channel, radio station, television station, and more recently, e-readers and smartphones. The information provided pertains to current events, trends, issues, and people.
Public Relations
Public relations is the process of providing information to the public in order to present a specific view of a product or organization. Public relations differs from advertising in that it is less obtrusive, and aimed at providing a more comprehensive opinion to a large audience in order to shape public opinion. Unlike advertising, public relations professionals only have control until the message is related to media gatekeepers who decide where to pass the information on to the audience.[6]
Mass Communications
I was confused about what to study & concerned about Mass Comm. EduSpiral answered my questions with facts to show that mass comm is in demand in Malaysia. Jacob Lean, Graduated with Mass Communication from KDU University College
Although the job of an objective journalist reporting world events and that of an advertising executive promoting a product may seem worlds apart, both these professionals may have backgrounds in mass communications.
Mass communication is the transmission of information to large numbers of people through the mass media. Mass media includes newspapers, magazines, television, radio, film, websites, and any technology that allows the dissemination of information to the public. Within the mass media are channels or vehicles of mass communication. These channels include news reports, books, movies, television programs, music videos, advertisements, and articles in magazines and newspapers and on websites.
Mass communication is mostly a one-way process, with little feedback from the audience, although the
Internet is bringing some change, with options that allow people to comment or otherwise provide feedback.
Corporate and institutional media (producing visual, audio, written, and multimedia materials for training and instruction, internal and external communications, sales, and public relations)
Visual communications (graphic design, production design, photography, video)

Choose to Study Mass Communication at Top Private Universities in Malaysia to Gain the Knowledge & Skills for a Successful Career
I was confused about what to study & concerned about Mass Comm. EduSpiral answered my questions with facts to show that mass comm is in demand in Malaysia. Jacob Lean, Graduated with Mass Communication from KDU University College
Mass Communication is the imparting or exchanging of information on a large scale to a wide range of people or mass audience. Basically, this is the use of communication channels that reach massive numbers of people. There is no set number of people that must be touched in order for a communications method to be considered “mass”, however, in general, those approaches that reach an audience larger than a single locality, city, or county are accepted as forms of mass communications. The channels includes media such as newspapers, magazines, television, cinema, radio, billboards, or the Internet.
Mass Comm students will learn how to craft the message in the most creative manner to reach the target market. They would first perform market research to find out about their target market – how they behave, what they like, where they obtain their information, etc. Mass Comm students will then come up with the right message and use the right media channels to send that message.
Most companies require mass communication graduates to look into their communication areas to the public. Companies also need people to create messages to sell their products creatively and position their brand or brands. Effective branding like Coke, McDonalds or Nike have made them multi-million dollar companies.
With the advent of the Internet, companies have begun to look for specialists who can send their messages to their market using social media, email, websites and other Internet tools.
The demand for writers who can create content for the online is growing steadily for example, bloggers like Kenny Sia. This means that there are good job prospects for those who are able to communicate well using the Internet.
Students interested in studying Mass Comm should be good in languages, like to socialise with people, have an outgoing personality, possess strategic thinking, like to write, organise events, a creative mind, and lots of energy.
You will not be able to write good press releases and copy for the brochures. Coming up with good taglines or campaign ideas for your product or company will be almost impossible. Having a good command of both English and Mandarin would be very advantageous. However, if you are only proficient in Mandarin, you will not be able to get jobs in top multinational or global companies.

According to Professor Dr. Ir. Yudi Samyudia, Deputy Pro Vice-Chancellor of Curtin Sarawak, the foundation programmes are intensive, focused programmes that enable students to adapt easily to the Curtin academic system. They also guarantee them entry to Curtin’s undergraduate programmes upon successful completion.
“The programmes challenge the students to become active learners who can acquire, interpret, communicate and apply knowledge within and across disciplines to cultivate the integrative thinking required in a complex and rapidly changing world,” said Professor Samyudia.
Low student-lecturer ratios in classrooms mean the students enjoy a friendly study environment with individual attention and pastoral care. All the academic staff in the foundation programmes are highly qualified and dedicated to ensuring their students get the most out of their programmes.
In addition, modern, diversified teaching methods are applied, which include workshops, introduction to

Students enjoy advanced technological support such as a modern library, well-equipped laboratories, ample supplies of learning materials, Internet access, and access to online resources at Curtin’s main campus in Perth, Western Australia.
The courses are aimed at developing academic diligence, critical analysis, and a raft of generic skills in students. They provide a solid foundation for the students to adapt to university education more confidently, both in terms of level and style of education. Both courses are recognised by the Ministry of Higher Education and the Malaysian Qualifications Agency (MQA).

Marketing communication (MarCom) is a fundamental and complex part of a company’s marketing efforts in Malaysia and globally. Loosely defined, MarComm can be described as all the messages and media you deploy to communicate with the market.
This includes advertising, direct marketing, branding, packaging, your online presence, printed materials, PR activities, sales presentations, sponsorships, trade show appearances and more. Marketing communication has two objectives. One is to create and sustain demand and preference for the brand or product. The other is to shorten the sales cycle.
Creating preference is often a longer-term effort that aims at using communication tools to help position your product or company in the minds of the target customer. Positioning and building a brand takes time and requires a certain consistency (not just in the communication efforts themselves, but also in regards to the core elements of product, pricing, and distribution) and therefore represents a significant commitment for the company.
However, establishing preference by building a brand will impact market share, profitability and even your access to talent—
EduSpiral provides counseling that is supported by facts & evidence to help students make the best choice. Pic – Student, with his mother, registering at UCSI University after the tour
and thus provides long-term value for the company.
Shortening the sales cycle means assisting your sales and channel partners in their efforts to identify, engage and deliver a customer. Understanding the customer’s buying process brings critical insight into how one can shorten the sales cycle. The figure below illustrates the process the buyer goes through when buying a product.
Through market research and conversations with salespersons, MarCom staff must identify how they can help speed up the process. In the case of high-tech products, the sales cycle involves considerable amounts of customer education in the early stages of the process.
MarCom must focus on creating, packaging and delivering relevant information to the buyer throughout the buying process in order to sales meet this education need.

Students in Malaysia should choose a university that’s equipped with the necessary facilities with lots of student activities and an English-speaking environment in order to prepare themselves well for a challenging career in marketing communications. It’s important not to choose a university with an environment that would not help you to improve your English language skills. If you do, you will realise upon graduation how challenging it would be to find a job or succeed in your marketing career in Malaysia without the necessary skills in writing or communicating in English.

Mass communication is “the process by which a person, group of people, or large organization creates a message and transmits it through some type of medium to a large, anonymous, heterogenous audience.” Mass communication is regularly associated with media influence or media effects, and media studies. Mass communication is a branch of social science that falls under the larger umbrella of communication studies of communication

Studying Mass Communication in Malaysia
EduSpiral met up with me & my parents to help us figure out which course is best for me. Then we toured the university which helped me to make a good choice. Yee Mun, Mass Communication at UCSI University
The 5 basic areas of study in mass communication are:
advertising
public relations
broadcasting
journalism

Advertising
“EduSpiral talked to me to find out my interests and career goals. He took me to a few universities to tour the campuses to see which one fit me best. EduSpiral helped me choose the right course at the right university.” Jia Ping, Mass Communication at KDU University College
Journalism
EduSpiral analysed my personality and results, subsequently advised me on choosing the right course as well as the best university that fit me. John Lai Wai Hong, Diploma in Mass Comm at KDU University College
Although the job of an objective journalist reporting world events and that of an advertising executive promoting a product may seem worlds apart, both these professionals may have backgrounds in mass communications.
Mass communication is the transmission of information to large numbers of people through the mass media. Mass media includes newspapers, magazines, television, radio, film, websites, and any technology that allows the dissemination of information to the public. Within the mass media are channels or vehicles of mass communication. These channels include news reports, books, movies, television programs, music videos, advertisements, and articles in magazines and newspapers and on websites.

Advertising & Branding is the process involved in creating a unique name and image for a product in the consumers’ mind, mainly through advertising campaigns with a consistent theme. Branding aims to establish a significant and differentiated presence in the market that attracts and retains loyal customers. Branding is not about getting your target market to choose you over the competition, but it is about getting your prospects to see you as the only one that provides a solution to their problem.
A strong brand is invaluable as the competition for customers is very high. It’s important to spend time investing in researching, defining, and building your brand. A strong brand increases the chances of customers purchasing the products. After all your brand is the source of a promise to your consumer. It’s a foundational piece in your marketing communication and one you do not want to be without.
To succeed in branding you must understand the needs and wants of your customers and prospects. You do this by integrating your brand strategies through advertising campaigns. Hence, branding and advertising go hand in hand.

take action on products, services and ideas. The idea is to drive consumer behavior in a particular way in regard to a product, service or concept.
Advertisers want to generate increased consumption of their commercial products and services.
Advertising messages are media content paid for by sponsors. Sponsors finance the production of advertisements and buy space for them in print media or online, or time for them to be broadcast in radio or television programs.
An advertisement is a paid announcement. For example, a persuasive message selling a product.
Advertisements are placed in traditional media such as newspapers, magazines, television, radio and outdoor signs, and in new media such as websites, text messages and social media. Placing is the buying of specific space in print and online or time on the air. Placement is where the ad is positioned in a medium.
Branding involves the frequent repetition of a product’s name or image in an attempt to have the

desirable qualities of that product stick in the minds of consumers. An integrated media campaign combines paid advertising with free media. These also are referred to as integrated marketing communications. Any mass medium can deliver the advertising message.
