Study Foundation at Top Private Universities in Malaysia

shorter in duration than the STPM and less difficult.

- Entry Requirements: Min. 5 credits, inclusive of Maths and 2 pure Science subjects for Foundation in Science or Engineering. For IT, you must have a credit in Maths. Other courses just require 5 credits. For Medicine and Pharmacy, Min. 5B in Maths, Additional Maths, Chemistry, Biology and Physics but will vary from university to university.

Assessment for Foundation programmes in Malaysia will vary from university to university. It will contain a mix of coursework, assignments, quizzes and exams.
The coursework could cover different assessment tasks such as projects, assignments, laboratory work,
presentations, tests, and others as assigned throughout each semester. The final examination is conducted at the end of each semester. The assessments are subject to quality assurance procedures to maintain high standards and ensuring fair assessment.

If you are interested in Design, then you can just focus on taking the Foundation in Design course which would suit your needs rather than taking a Foundation in Arts course where you may not have the interest in the subjects.
However, there are also general Foundation programmes such as Foundation in Arts and Foundation in Science offered by the private universities. Foundation in Science programmes can lead to degree courses in engineering, computing, health sciences, applied sciences, medicine, pharmacy, etc. Students completing the Foundation in Arts can go for degree programmes in accounting, business, design, computing, mass communication, and other arts-related degree courses.
Foundation in Science graduates may choose to continue in the science-related degree programmes or change to arts-related degree programmes. Therefore, their choices are wider.

Heriot-Watt University Malaysia’s Foundation in Science programme content is taught over three semesters (18, 14, 14 weeks) through lectures, seminars and group work. You will

You will develop your English communication skills and learn a range of study skills, including learning and motivation, time management, reading strategies and communication skills across three courses:

Physics

You will also develop your knowledge and understanding of electrical charge and current and, potential difference, resistance, capacitance, transistors and amplifiers, electrical, gravitational, magnetic, and electromagnetic fields.
Chemistry
You will learn about atomic structure, the elements and the Periodic Table, chemical formulae and equations, and an introduction to chemical bonding, redox reactions, equilibrium processes, chemical kinetics and organic chemistry, particularly hydrocarbons.
