The Multimedia Development Corporation (MDeC) reiterated its commitment to drive the growth of the local creative multimedia
industry by naming export as one of the catalyst of growth. For the past six years, companies under MSC Malaysia’s Creative Multimedia Cluster (CMC) have displayed an encouraging cumulative average growth rate (CAGR) between 9-10% with companies’ revenues reaching RM6.99 billion in 2012.

In addition, Malaysia is now seen as a significant player in the creative content industry in the region. Creative contents produced by Malaysians are no longer confined to local audiences but also consumed by the expansive international audiences. This is reflected by the fact that 309 companies under CMC have collectively contributed RM487 million in exports to Malaysia’s GDP in 2012.

Speaking at the launch of the Kre8tif! Conference 2014, MDeC’s renowned conference for creative

industry players, Datuk Badlisham Ghazali, the Chief Executive Officer of MDeC said “Our creative multimedia industry could achieve higher growth if we manage to effectively tap into the broader international market. The Malaysian creative multimedia industry is currently estimated to be worth around RM16 billion.

From 2011to 2012, new investments by companies under CMC increased by 32% which is equivalent to an additional RM0.3 billion to the country’s GDP. This has also resulted in the creation of 1,887 new jobs. We believe that this achievement combined with the efforts in place under the National Key Economic Area – Communications, Content and Infrastructure of the Economic Transformation Programme driven by PEMANDU, the industry is on track to contribute an additional RM35.7 billion to the
country’s GDP and create over 43,163 jobs by 2020,”.

He further concluded, “Through strategic partnerships and programmes such as MAC3, IPCC, CILL and the Master Classes, MDeC provides a conducive and enabling environment designed to enable creative companies to harness their full potential and become a source of inspiration to new companies entering the industry.”

This award will equip you with the skills to work in film, TV and new media. Specialising in industry-standard products, from digital film and video editing to the animation skills required to produce broadcast-standard titling and effects, you’ll also gain the post-production skills that all postproduction professionals need.

This course combines the study of digital video production and post-production in a number of different fields, including film, video, television, animation, design and digital imaging.

You will learn how to use industry-standard software including Avid, Final Cut Pro Studio and the Adobe Creative Suite. All the post-production skills are backed up with the film production knowledge all editors and post-production professionals require.

Year 1 covers all the basic post-production skills including graphics and the basics of film production and editing, with options to include sound recording and CGI.

This is reflected in a change in emphasis in Level 6 from teaching and learning through the completion of structured class activities, worksheets and assignments in Level 4 and Level 5 to the increasing involvement of students in project work where they can have considerable input into the choice of topics for investigation as well as both the design and implementation of appropriate field, lab, and literature based methods of enquiry (both individual and group based).

Directed study supports and builds upon the knowledge and skills learnt in class to provide a fuller understanding of the subject. Personal and module tutors are on hand to provide support to the students to discuss any queries, for advice on plans and initial drafts etc.

The curriculum is structured so that skills and knowledge developed lower levels can be transferred, re-applied and further developed between in the higher levels. The problems presented are outcome based and how the students get to a solution is managed with the help of the academic as the facilitator.

All these methods ensure that learning outcomes are tested in the most appropriate way; reflect the sorts of materials graduates

will be asked to prepare in future careers; and recognise that students have different abilities.
